Mr. Edward George Grinham, a former deputy Managing Director of the Standard Motor Co., Coventry, has died at his home at the age of 78.

Mr. Grinham, who lived at Elm Cottage, Malthouse Lane, Kenilworth, retired in
December, 1956. but continued his association with the Standard company for a period as a consultant.
He was apprenticed with Vickers Ltd., of Erith, Kent.
His connection with the motor industry started in 1914 when he became engaged in engine design at Wolseley Motors, Birmingham.
After working with Vulcan Motors and Humber Ltd. he went to Standard.
For two years during the Second World War he was general manager of the De Havilland Aircraft Company.
At the end of the war he rejoined the Root’s Group as chief engineer and returned to Standard as technical director in 1945. He was appointed deputy managing director in 1954.
Mr. Grinham was founder chairman of the Standards Committee of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. He had been a council member of the Motor Industry Research Association and was a member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the Society of Automotive Engineers.
After retiring from his full-time position in 1958 he also took a part-time post with the Dunlop Rubber Co. relinquishing it in 1962.
He was a life member and former president of Kenilworth Golf Club. Mr. Grinham is survived by his second wife and a son of his first marriage.
