What a fantastic experience during the Spring of 1974!
Together with Jack Selby, 18 of us travelled by coach to Poole in Dorset for a “character building” week away from engineering. We stayed in dormitory accommodation and had an “outward bound’ type experience, learning new skills, developing teamwork and communication.
The instructors were ex-millitary. The course was designed to give us new experiences in canoeing, rock climbing, map reading, orienteering, camping and underwater swimming.
One exercise involved being woken up in the middle of the night, to travel by LandRover to an unknown location, given a map and compass and the task of meeting at a rendezvous point some miles away. Good luck lads.
I recall rock climbing on coastal cliffs, canoeing in Poole Harbour and various activities in the Purbeck Hills.
