I have come across the Standard Motor site with a reference to the fire brigade, but I have got stuck and wonder if you could help me, please.
The photograph shows my uncle, Arthur Page. I believe that he worked at Standard Motors in Coventry in 1940. I am not sure in what capacity he was employed (he was a plumber by trade) but he was attached to the works fire brigade for his war service. The 1940 photograph shows him in a fireman’s uniform which, I presume, is that of the Standard Fire Brigade. I am led to understand that on 14 November 1940 he was a member of a Standard Fire Brigade crew despatched to assist in Coventry city centre. The City Record Office online catalogue suggests that it does not hold any records that would help confirm that, however.
I am wondering if you know if any Standard Motor Company Fire Brigade records survive from the 1940s and if so, whether they might throw any light on this to confirm what I have been told.
I’d be most grateful for any help you could give me in this respect.
